Thank you. My name is Lawrence Wasden, and I am the Attorney General. I would like to, thank you, I would like to introduce my wife, Tracy. She's right over here. She's my campaign manager.
We've been married 42 years. Thank you Sweetheart.
I just returned from North Dakota where I attended the funeral of my good friend Wayne Stenehjem, who was the Attorney General of North Dakota, had a heart attack last week and passed away. Very solemn occasion for all of us in the Attorney General world. A couple of things that I think are really important. First of all, the rule of law is front and center in this campaign. What that means is that we are all subject to the law. Under limited government that means as the Attorney General, I'm limited to doing what the law says I can do. I don't get to choose who my clients are. I don't get to choose policy. That's done by the legislature. My job is to do what the law says.
We've talked something about sovereignty. I want to give you an example of sovereignty. How many of you believe, I want to show of hands? How many of you believe California should control the state of Idaho. I got no hands on that one. I don't believe that either. Well, there's a case called Texas versus Pennsylvania, and that's what it was about.
It was not a lawsuit against the federal government. It was a lawsuit attacking the sovereignty of a sister state, Texas versus Pennsylvania. Now, I may not like the way Pennsylvania handles their matters, but under the principle of Federalism in our Constitution, each state is independent from the other States. And if Texas can sue Pennsylvania, then California can sue us. And I don't think we should have that happen.
Now, that's a difference of opinion among some folks here tonight, but I didn't just say the word stand for sovereignty, I stood for state sovereignty, and I did that nearly alone.
Now we talk about suing the federal government, again, those are not just words. I actually do that. The governor and I sued the Biden administration just about ten days ago. We got them to back down on the OSHA vaccine mandate. They've removed that, and that was our work together. Thank you Governor.
So those are not just words. You're going to hear a lot of stuff in this campaign and in every campaign, if you're paying attention, each candidate will disclose their character. I ask you to pay attention to that. I believe in the words of Abraham Lincoln, who said, put your feet in the right place and stand firm. That's exactly what I have done.
Thank you. My name is Lawrence Wasden, and I am the Attorney General. I would like to, thank you, I would like to introduce my wife, Tracey. She's right over here. She's my campaign manager.
